
Bone Broth
Nothing is better for your gut, than a cup of warm, rich broth - made from simmering bones for a long time. The cooking process extracts all of the minerals and other amino acids for easy absorption in your gut. Bone broth is good for:- Gut healing- Nourshment when unwell- Joint care- Post surgery or injury for healing
Ingredients
- 1-2 kg Organic Beef or Chicken Carcasses
- 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 1 tsp Peppercorns
Optional - if you want to consume the bone broth on its own, add some flavour:
- 1-2 Carrots, roughly chopped
- 2 Celery Sprigs
- 1 Leek or onion chopped
- 2 Garlic Cloves
Instructions
- If using beef bones, roast in a hot oven for 15 mins to bring out the flavour
- NOTE: You can use frozen bones to save time
- Place all ingredients in the pot
- Fill with enough water to cover the bones
Using a Crockpot
- Slow cook on high - 12hrs for chicken, 12-24hrs for beef
Using Stovetop
- Bring to the boil, and then reduce the heat to simmer
- 6hrs for chicken, and 12hrs for beef
Finishing and Storage
- Strain out the solids, and let it cool
- Store in a glass jar or bottle for up to 1 week - or freeze in smaller portions for up to 3 months
Serving
- Serve hot, with a squeeze of lemon, some salt, cracked pepper, and fresh herbs such as parsely, thyme or coriander.
- Use as a base for soups, casseroles, risotto, cooking rice or quinoa.
